Why DBay Dental Chooses Water

If you have been following our Facebook page you may remember that last week here at DBay Dental we celebrated World Cavity-Free Future Day. This day is to promote and help increase resources towards preventing tooth decay. This year’s theme is #choosewater.

We would like to take the opportunity to use this platform to help our patients make a more informed decision towards their overall oral health.

Our bodies are made up of 60% water. This why staying hydrated is not only a positive step you can take towards the health of your teeth but it also contributes to the function of delivering nutrients , getting rid of your bodies waste and keeps your muscles moving.

In such a fast paced modern world poor choices for your teeth are easily available as they are heavily advertised and discounted to keep their customers wanting more.

In particular sports drinks contribute to high levels of acid wear mainly because after exercising heavily the saliva in the mouth decreases and that barrier of protection is removed which can contribute to stripping healthy enamel from the tooth’s surface.

Below we have demonstrated how much sugar is in each product to create a clear picture of just how damaging these choices can be.

How can I best protect my teeth?

We love all of our patient’s input and this is one of our most frequently asked questions. The answer is quite simple. By eliminating sugary beverages and choosing water, this is the best defence towards a vibrant, healthy smile. Water is by far the better choice for your oral health; soft drinks should be for treats and not consumed every day.

Water also contributes to keeping your mouth clean. Simply rinsing your mouth with water after a meal or sugary drink helps to wash away any leftover food and residue that cavity causing bacteria are looking for. It also dilutes the acids produced by the bacteria in your mouth.

You will still need to brush twice a day for two minutes to maintain your smile but remember to #choosewater.
