Make a dental check up part of your kids back to school check list!!!

It’s a new year so why not start if off with a fresh sparkling smile??

The government gives all eligible children between the ages of 2 to 17 years free dental treatment up to $1026 over a 2 year period under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS).

Some of the benefits that eligible children are entitled to are

  • Check-ups and examinations
  • Teeth cleaning
  • X-rays
  • Fillings
  • Root Canals
  • Tooth extractions
  • Fissure sealing

However the benefits do not include orthodontic or cosmetic dental work. If a child requires dental treatment that is outside of the available services, or the required payment exceeds $1026, parents are required to cover the remaining balance themselves.

Ensure your children develop a great relationship with a dentist at a young age, this will establish good dental habits & oral health as adults.

How to know if your children are eligible?

Children must be:

  • Eligible for Medicare
  • Aged 2 to 17 years, for any one day of the calendar year,
  • A recipient of a Government payment or a member of a family that receives Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) or another relevant Australian Government payment, such as a parenting payment, Disability Support Pension or Career Payment.

Families of children who automatically qualify will receive letter from the Australian Government regarding their eligibility and the benefits on offer. There is no need to apply for this however it is important to note that funds do not accumulate so if you don’t use it, it will go to waste.

If your child is eligible or to find out if your child is eligible and you are looking for a local and friendly dentist, call D Bay Dental today on (07) 3203 0162 to book an appointment.
