So what appliances are available through Dr Michael Hearsch?
Removable partial dentures – for patients who are missing some of their teeth on a particular arch.
Complete dentures – either conventional or immediate.
A Conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed.
Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed, so the patient does not have to be without teeth during the healing period.
However, it should be noted that during the healing period that follows tooth removal, bones and gums can shrink so immediate dentures should generally only be considered as a temporary solution until conventional dentures can be made.
Dentures can help patients in a number of ways:
- Mastication – chewing ability is improved by replacing edentulous areas with denture teeth.
- Aesthetics – the presence of teeth provide a natural facial appearance, and wearing a denture to replace missing teeth provides support for the lips and cheeks and corrects the collapsed appearance that occurs after losing teeth.
- Phonetics – by replacing missing teeth, especially the anteriors, patients are better able to speak by improving pronunciation of those words containing sibilants or fricatives.
- Self-Esteem – Patients feel better about themselves.
Occlusal splints – The occlusal splint is made from a processed acrylic resin and is designed to guide the jaw as it moves from side to side and front to back. This precisise device both protects the teeth from harmful habits and supports the TMJ(the temporomandibular joint that acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull) and the muscles that are used in chewing.
Mouthguards – are an essential item for any person playing sport as it can save your teeth from damage. Dental injuries can be very painful, disfiguring and expensive to treat.
The mouthguards made by Dr Michael Hearsch are –
- custom fitted to your teeth,

Sleep apnea appliances – Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the muscles in the back of your throat relax too much to allow normal breathing.
